Protect Your Smile With General Dentistry

General dentistry refers to routine dental care that helps maintain good oral health and prevents common dental problems. This is the branch of dentistry that treats any dental problem. It also includes preventative care, which helps prevent cavities, gum disease, and other issues.

The most common general dentistry services are:

Dental Cleanings

It is also important to see your general dentist for routine cleanings and exams. Your smile will benefit the most from a checkup and cleaning every six months. These visits are vital because they allow the dentist to catch problems early on before they require major treatments. They also keep your teeth healthy and clean by polishing them and removing plaque buildup.

Dental Fillings

For minor tooth decay, the dentist can place a filling using a composite resin material that matches the natural color of your teeth. A tooth-colored filling in an inconspicuous location is virtually unnoticeable to others.

Dental Crowns or Caps

A dental crown in Hanahan can usually replace a tooth that has been severely damaged from decay or needs to be removed due to infection. The crown will both restore the appearance of the tooth and function just like a natural tooth. This is because the crown will cover the entire visible part of the damaged tooth above the gums. It will then be allowed to bond to the natural tooth. Once it’s in place, a crown will look, feel, and function like any of your other teeth! It’s possible for a patient to need just one crown or multiple crowns on a single arch of teeth. In cases where there are multiple damaged teeth, the dentist at our practice may place a bridge to replace the missing teeth.

Root Canal Therapy

If a tooth is infected, root canal therapy may be the only way to save the tooth. It consists of removing the pulp inside the tooth and cleaning out the inside of the tooth. The tooth is then filled with a special filling. After the procedure is complete, the tooth continues to function like any other tooth. A tooth that has been treated with root canal therapy needs to be fitted with a dental crown. That’s because teeth that have been treated with endodontic therapy tend to become brittle over time. They are more prone to cracking and breaking than teeth that haven’t undergone treatment.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. It is made up of two dental crowns, and one or more artificial teeth called pontics. The crowns fit over the adjacent natural teeth, anchoring the bridge in place. The bridge is then cemented into place and functions just like a regular tooth.
